“Explore Ratargul Swamp Forest in Sylhet, the Amazon of Bangladesh. A complete travel guide for boat rides, photography, wildlife & adventure seekers.”
About Ratargul
Ratargul Swamp Forest,
often called the “Amazon of Bangladesh,” is one of the country’s few
freshwater swamp forests and a hidden treasure for travelers. Located in Gowainghat
upazila of Sylhet, this forest spans about 500 acres and is
nourished by the Gowain River and Chengir Lake. During the
monsoon season, the forest becomes fully submerged under 15–20 feet of water,
creating a magical atmosphere where boats glide through the half-drowned trees,
offering a surreal travel experience.
It is home to around 73
species of plants, along with various birds, snakes, monkeys, and fish.
During monsoon, the reflection of tall Koroch trees in the still waters creates
a dreamlike scene that attracts photographers, nature lovers, and adventure
seekers from all over the country.
